Shopping : Antiques

Paris is a city of the arts and of history. Things from the past are highly valued and admired.

Paris is a heaven for antique dealers. You’ll find quite a few antique shops in one and the same street, and there are even whole neighbourhoods that are real goldmines for antiques and curiosities. Close to the Louvre many antique dealers have established themselves in the former storage depots of the museum. More than 200 shops on different floor levels offer a large assortment of interior decoration objects, china dolls and frilly things from every historical period.

Another hunting ground is the Swiss Pavillion erected for the World Fair of 1900. This building close to the Dôme des Invalides houses more than 100 antique shops, specialising in furniture, art, jewelry and much more.

Drouot, the famous auction house, regularly puts up for sale valuable antique pieces. Even if you don’t want to buy anything, just looking at the proceedings is great fun.

The Left Bank, especially the Saint-Germain quarter, is chockablock with small antique shops. A paradise for browsers!

Many more antique shops are found at the Carré Rive Gauche (7), on Quai Voltaire, on Rue des Saints-Pères, Rue de l’Université, Rue du Bac (Underground: Rue du Bac, Saint-Germain-des-Prés).
