Transport :
Use the Underground (
www.ratp.fr )as much as you can. It saves time, and it
is without a shadow of a doubt one of Paris’s most dependable modes of
transport. The Underground network is excellent: there are thirteen
lines, easily recognisable by the names of the terminus and the number.
Underground trains go every few minutes, from 5.30am to 0.30am. Every
inner city district is easily reached. When staying in Paris for a
couple of days, it is best to buy a carnet
( underground
card for ten rides).
The RER (Réseau Express Régional) is a train network serving
the surroundings of Paris. They also function as a backup system to the
Underground network.
Consult the posters at bus stops for the numbers of the buses.
Timetables are not easy to understand. A number of buses finish their
runs at 8.30pm! Expect to queue!
After almost seventy years, a tram will be riding the streets of Paris
again. It will ride between the Gariglia Bridge (15) and
the Port d’Ivry. The section is eight kilometers long and there will be
nineteen stops.
