The basilica from the 12th century is not only a leading example of the Gothic, it is also the place where almost all French kings were crowned and buried. For many centuries it was the spiritual center of France. In the 5th century a church was built here and as the legend goes, it is where Saint Dionysus walked around with his head under his arm, after he had been decapitated at Montmartre.
Not only the basilica, but the tombstones of the kings are quite spectacular as well.
